Overview
Holistic Utility Solutions completed a lighting retrofit project for the City of Texarkana, Texas at the Southwest Center and Collins Senior Center recreation facilities.
The city sought to improve lighting quality, reduce energy consumption, and upgrade aging lighting systems across both indoor and outdoor areas.
To support the project, Holistic assisted the city in securing grant funding from the Texas State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) and utility incentives from SWEPCO that significantly reduced the overall project cost.
Progress
Holistic began the lighting retrofit project by evaluating existing lighting conditions at both facilities.
The assessment included:
- Interior lighting throughout the recreation centers
- Gymnasium lighting systems
- Exterior parking lot lighting
- Lighting for tennis and pickleball courts
Many of the existing fixtures used older lighting technology that consumed more energy and required frequent maintenance.
After completing the assessment, Holistic prepared project documentation and submitted a grant application to the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO).
The city successfully received $50k in grant funding to support the retrofit project.
Solution
The lighting retrofit project included the replacement of older fixtures with modern energy-efficient LED lighting.
The upgrade included:
- Interior lighting replacements throughout the facilities
- New high-efficiency lighting for gymnasium spaces
- LED upgrades for exterior parking lot lighting
- Improved lighting for outdoor recreational courts
The total project cost before incentives was approximately $89,000.
In addition to the SECO grant, Holistic Utility Solutions secured a utility incentive from SWEPCO that covered approximately 8% of the project cost.
Both funding sources were passed directly to the city to reduce capital expenses.
Result
The lighting retrofit project improved lighting quality while reducing long-term operating costs for the city.
Key outcomes included:
- Improved lighting consistency and brightness
- Reduced energy consumption
- Lower maintenance requirements
- Grant funding to offset project cost
- Additional utility incentive savings
Overall, the project demonstrates how a well-planned lighting retrofit project can help municipalities improve facility performance while reducing operational expenses.
